Families Need Fathers (FNF) is a registered charity providing information on shared parenting issues arising from family breakdown and support to divorced and separated parents, irrespective of gender or marital status. FNF’s primary concern is the maintenance of the child’s relationship with both parents.
FNF believes that all parents should be treated equally. Research shows that children thrive best with two caring parents, yet it is clear that prevailing attitudes towards shared parenting after separation or divorce are marginalising non-resident parents – almost always fathers – on an alarming scale.
FNF was founded in May 1974 and became a registered charity in 1979. FNF provides information through its publications and (increasingly) through its internet website. Personal support is provided by a national network of volunteers who act as telephone contacts and local organisers, and regular group meetings are held in a variety of locations throughout the country.
FNF seeks to address the problems faced by non-resident parents, and to influence public opinion by raising awareness of the inadequacy of the current family justice system and its effect on divided families, both parents and children alike. It is aware of the increasing impact that the issue of domestic violence is having in this area.

The ManKind Initiative is a national charity dedicated providing help and support for male victims of domestic abuse and domestic violence.
To achieve this, the charity undertakes a number of activities:-
- It provides a helpline (01823 334244) manned by trained people who give information and support on all aspects of domestic abuse including reporting incidents, police procedures, housing, benefits and injunctions.
- It refers victims to refuges, local authorities and other support services, where appropriate.
- It undertakes lectures, workshops, and provides information in order to raise awareness of the social problems caused by domestic abuse within society. It works in partnership with all agencies in order to develop solutions for all victims.
- It campaigns for more recognition, services and support for male victims of domestic abuse/violence.

AMEN is a voluntary group, founded in December 1997, which provides a confidential helpline, information and a support service for male victims of domestic abuse and their children in the Republic of Ireland.
AMEN volunteers provide information on the legal remedies available to male victims who contact them and assist in making decisions on the options open to them.
The organisation also campaigns for greater recognition and support services for male victims from political and statutory bodies and for the inclusion of men, men’s groups and men’s experiences in the formulation of relevant social policy and legislation in the Republic.
